Mound Laser & Photonics Center, Inc. (MLPC) specializes in laser materials processing at the micro and nano level. The company combines government-sponsored R&D and contract manufacturing that provides an immediate pathway for commercialization while maintaining the company’s position on the leading edge of the technology. MLPC primarily serves the defense and medical device markets, but the technology enables applications in many other areas including automotive, aerospace and alternative energy.

Lori Kershner represented MLPC to the Ohio General Assembly. Lori had successfully positioned MLPC to receive multiple funding awards (totaling over $500,000) from the Ohio Department of Development (now JobsOhio) and Ohio Board of Regents and regularly works with the administration in pursuit of additional support from the state. MLPC has served as a resource for area legislators as they consider bills impacting the manufacturing industry including tax revisions, workers compensation and workforce initiatives.

Lori worked closely with legislators representing MLPC to educate them on the success of the company. As a result of this advocacy, numerous legislators have become Legislative Champions for the company. She also worked closely with high level staff in various departments and agencies to ensure that they are aware of issues of impact to MLPC. As a result, several unintended consequences of legislative efforts have been corrected before becoming law.

Lori also represented MLPC to the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association, Ohio Chamber of Commerce and Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. MLPC continues to have a seat at the table during critical discussions on legislative initiatives impacting business and manufacturing industries.

By working with LMK Advocacy, MLPC not only is well positioned with the Ohio Legislature but also with various associations and coalitions advocating on similar initiatives.
